Security Officers Reach Tentative Agreement with Security Contractors for New Contract

Security officers reached a tentative agreement with security contractors AlliedBarton, Securitas, and Northeast Security this weekend for a new contract. Officers, who are members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 615, have been negotiating with contractors for their first contract since July.

Justice for All
Down the entire length of Mason Street, in the heart of downtown Boston, there is always a vibrant parade of activists marching for peace and justice. In October, 2008, SEIU Local 615 proudly unveiled a 150-foot mural running alongside the west-facing wall of its offices at 26 West Street. This historic labor mural is the first of its kind in Boston, the only public, exterior wall painting to celebrate local labor.

A crowd of hundreds marched through downtown Boston Tuesday afternoon as the contracted janitors and security officers of SEIU Local 615 called on the business community not to make the current downturn worse by undercutting full-time jobs that support working families. This is the first march in response to widespread layoffs that are occurring across industrial sectors.

Security Officers Hold Candlelight Vigil

Security officers and community leaders gathered on November 12th at a candlelight vigil in front of the Westin Waterfront, where the BOMA Boston Toby & Industry Awards were being held, to honor leaders in the real estate industry. The officers, along with religious and community representatives, called on the industry leaders to work with the officers to eradicate poverty wage jobs and to provide officers with benefits.

After a two-year campaign, a major union has succeeded in recruiting hundreds of security guards working in downtown Boston towers and Cambridge office buildings.  Now the Service Employees International Union is preparing for a fall push to get its new members a contract to boost wages and improve working conditions.
